本作は、九州・有明海に流れ込む河川（筑後川、矢部川、菊池川など）を上流から下流までたどり、治水と生物多様性の保全を両立してきた地域の営みを描くショートドキュメンタリーです。 九州北西部の河川では、江戸時代から水を受け止め、分散させる工夫が受け継がれています。クリークやため池などの湿地は、水害対策と農業を支えながら、タナゴ類をはじめとする希少な淡水生態系を育んできました。生物多様性の保全と流域治水は両立できるのか。流域にかかわる方々のインタビューをとおして、考えます。

This short documentary follows rivers flowing into the Ariake Sea in Kyushu (including the Chikugo, Yabe, and Kikuchi rivers) from upstream to downstream, depicting local practices that have balanced flood control with biodiversity conservation. In rivers of northwestern Kyushu, techniques for absorbing and dispersing water have been passed down since the Edo period. Wetlands such as creeks and irrigation ponds have supported both flood countermeasures and agriculture, while nurturing rare freshwater ecosystems, including bitterling fish. Can biodiversity conservation and watershed-based flood control coexist? The film explores this question through interviews with people connected to the watershed.
